How does identification work?

You take a photo, and Fish ID sends it to our API, which uses Anthropic's Claude AI to identify the species. Your photo is never stored by us — it's processed and gone. Identification works best with a clear, side-on shot of the whole fish in good light. It's AI-assisted, so treat the result as a strong suggestion and verify before keeping a fish.

Is the regulation info official?

No. Regulation information in Fish ID is provided for general informational purposes only — it may be incomplete or out of date, and it has no legal force or effect. Always verify current regulations with your state wildlife agency before fishing. Details are in our Terms of Use.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, so cancellation happens in your Apple account, not in Fish ID:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap your name at the top.
Tap Subscriptions.
Tap Fish ID, then Cancel Subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep Fish ID Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Profile > Reset app. This clears your catch log and preferences on the device and deletes your anonymous usage record from our server (the server deletion needs an internet connection — the app tells you if it couldn't reach us). Deleting the app removes all local data as well. Photos are never stored by us in the first place. Anything else, email support@tryfishid.com.

Why does the app ask for location?

Only to figure out which US state's regulations to show you. The app uses your coarse location on-device; your coordinates are never stored and never sent to Fish ID's servers. Only the state name is kept, on your device. More in our Privacy Policy.

What does Fish ID Pro include?

Unlimited scans, plus offline access to your saved states — download a state's regulations before the trip and they work with no signal at all.
